Im Oktober 2012 nahm Wlodzimierz Umaniec seinen schwarzen Edding zur Hand und taggte auf Mark Rothkos Gemälde „Black on Maroon“. Dieses wurde daraufhin zwei lange Jahre restauriert, um jegliche Spuren der Tat zu tilgen.Es bleibt die Frage: Welches ist das größere Verbrechen am Werk des abstrakten New Yorker Künstlers?
Die Maler Ursula Keutterling, Moritz Brunken und Paul Baumgarten lassen Rothko nun Gerechtigkeit widerfahren. In der Ausstellung De:Restoring Rothko fragen sie nach der Originalität von Originalen und zeigen das Ergebnis eines ganzen Jahres zwischen Kopie, Individualismus und Freundschaft.

One day in October 2012 Wlodzimierz Umaniec took out his black Ink Pen and tagged on Mark Rothkos Painting “Black on Maroon”. It was restored to its original state for the next two years. The question remains: Which altering of the Painting is worse?
Three Artists from Bremen demand justice for Rothko. In De:Restoring Rothko they ask questions about the connection of sampling culture and originals. They will show the results of a year of painting, copying, reinterpretation and friendship.
