Sonic Tactics

⇢ Sonic Tactics 2
⇢ 6th September 5 to 10 pm, Sunday 7th September 2 to 6 pm
⇢ @spedition, Kleine Halle

Sonic Tactics is a shared laboratory that treats sound as operative material for making relations, rhythms, and possibilities. Tactics refuses strategy: not a plan to capture ends but an improvisational craft practiced inside and against the powers that compose us. It is communal work that foregrounds becoming over being.

We listen where the world forgets itself: in thresholds, in the space between pulse and pause. Listening is method, modes of thought. Voices and sounds are excavated as field, rhythms rehearsed, otherwise cultivated. Improvisation here is readiness: to answer, to rearrange, to care.

Sonic tactics thus holds irresolution as resource and train auditory as a collective capacity, it stages moments of attentiveness — listening circles, reading sessions, public activations. The assembly is itself a tactic: through exchange we recompose what counts as ground and propose new grammars of relation so the unknown may practice itself into possibility.

Sonic Tactics is study as fugue: a practice that uses sound to frame inquiry. We do labour to unmake enclosures and to open the thing we call a room.

_________

During this two-day event as part of the GB OPEN, we will be sharing individual and collective works, showcasing varied sonic tactics, as well as reflecting on the collaboration tactics that make them possible.

We will engage with structural and sonic space-making, role-based reading, sound installation, field recordings, speculative narration, and audio-visual experimentation.

Turvis is an ever-changing way of structuring an encounter through mutual listening. It is a role-based reading practice that situates our work within broader disciplines. We will approach a collection of text fragments by adopting different modes of attention, rotating roles and distributing speaking time to generate a dynamic diversity of perspectives.

Navigating the life of a vessel through its multiple cycles of becoming,
unbecoming, and decay, From the Crackle, A Factual Tale is the first of series of performances that operate as containers for practice-based sonic exploration, situating collective listening and the action of mending as an ongoing dialogue, creating a space for imagining alternative modes of construction and assembly.

Following Kodwo Eshun’s theory of sonic fiction, which serves here as a tool for shaping collective identities and imagining alternative scenarios, Gabriela Valdespino [or: gabb brillo lenta] consider the possibilities of sonic fictions as sonic tactic through a lecture performance [or hybrid DJ set] mixing fragments of myths, poetry and theory with field recordings, vocals, and samples.

Closing the day with playing some music for us is O-PTPT. There will be a li’l bit ambient, a li’l bass and a li’l of deconstructed.

Embodied Bodies in Embodied Places: Fragments from Diaries weaves together field recordings, interviews, and intimate reflections into a soundscape where memory, space, and resistance resonate. A sonic exploration and historical reading of two subcultural spaces in Bremen.

Witnessing here means to stay with complexity, a stance. The sonic bends the eye; the hearing-room becomes a listening-room.

What does it mean to witness together? We do enact!! We trace gesture!! Into this is brought a fragments of contemporary history from Constitutional court in Johannesburg, South Africa—somewhere grounded in the work of becoming.

Grounded in the practice of the Black Atlantic and responding to the space our bodies occupy, weaving ambient soundscapes, jungle rhythms, and own productions as a tool to understand sound as past times echoing in presence.

See you there❣️
