New skyscrapers with a dream view of the Mediterranean grow into the bright blue sky above Beirut. During the day they are built by Syrian construction workers. In their home Syria, the war is destroying their own homes at the same time.
At night, a curfew forces them to descend into the interior of the cement giants. They are not allowed to leave the construction site. They have to go down to the cellars of the concrete giants, where they cook, hope, sleep.
With TASTE OF CEMENT, the Syrian director Ziad Kalthoum has created a poetic, emotional and visually stunning work that is more than a film – it is an experience.
The film was shown at festivals last year and was nominated and awarded many times.
Afterwards la6izi offers a talk about the situation of Syrian refugees in the neighbouring countries of Syria.

In den strahlend blauen Himmel über Beirut wachsen neue Wolkenkratzer mit Traumblick auf das Mittelmeer. Tagsüber werden sie von syrischen Bauarbeitern errichtet. Zu Hause in ihrer Heimat zerstört der Krieg zur gleichen Zeit ihre eigenen Häuser. Auch nachts dürfen sie die Baustelle nicht verlassen. Sie müssen hinunter in die Keller der Betongiganten, wo sie kochen, hoffen, schlafen.
Der syrische Regisseur Ziad Kalthoum hat mit TASTE OF CEMENT – Der Geschmack von Zement ein poetisches, emotionales und bildgewaltiges Werk geschaffen, das mehr ist als ein Film – es ist eine Erfahrung.
Der Film wurde letztes Jahr auf Festivals gezeigt und vielfach nominiert und ausgezeichnet.
Im Anschluß bietet la6izi ein Gespräch an zur Situation syrischer Geflüchteter in den Nachbarländern Syriens.
